Hi Howard County Neighbors,

While I was out campaigning on Saturday several people asked me how to vote. I don’t want anyone to miss exercising their right to vote in the Primary (and the General Election when that time comes) so here is some helpful information from Maryland and Howard County

  1. To vote in Maryland this year you must be a US Citizen, 18 years old by November 8, 2022 and a resident of Maryland. 17-year-olds are permitted to vote in primary elections, so long as they’ll be 18 by the time of the corresponding general election (November 8 this year.)
  2. To vote in Howard County elections (dates the same as MD elections, registration covers both state and county elections) like the upcoming Howard County Executive, Council Districts and Board of Education, you must also be a Howard County Resident.
  3. You must register to vote. If you are not registered go here:  https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration/InstructionsStep1. You can also use this link to check if you are registered and to ask for a mail in ballot.
  4. Once you register to vote that registration remains valid until you move from your residence to a new residence in MD or you move your residence from the state of MD.
  5. The deadline to register to vote and change party affiliation for the Primary Election is Tuesday June 28, 2022.
  6. The primary election is July 19 this year.
  7. To vote by mail, you must request a mail in ballot. Use the link from item 3 above. Your request for a mail-in ballot for the Primary Election must be received by July 12, 2022.
  8. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked or placed in a designated ballot drop box (locations to be announced later) by 8 pm on July 19, 2022 for the Primary Election.
  9. You don’t have to vote by mail. You can also vote in person during early voting. I will share details about early voting in the primaries (dates and locations) once that is finalized. You can also vote in person on the actual primary voting day right now scheduled for July 19, 2022.

Hope this helps. Please exercise your right to vote!  I will share more information for the November General Election after the Primary.
